      1. there is good deal of performance difference in CoreI7 and current generation quad core (dual cores are not even comparable).....

      2. I think the mobos that supprot CoreI7 are very expensive i.e. above 20k atm.....Asus Rampage Formula 2 and other Intel X48 and above chipset mobos support it....

Core i7 is basically a workstation/enthusiast processor. It is not meant for Desktop. The gains from Core2Duo to Core i7 are not that significant if you consider gaming performances. It is basically a multi threading beast. The most games of today are not optimized for more than two cores. If you want to upgrade to Core i7 from Core2duo then you will have to upgrade the whole platform which will cost a considerable amount of money. The Processor itself is not that much expensive but the X58 boards and DDRIII costs a lot of money.
I say wait till Q4 2009 when Core i5's along with X55 chipset arrive. DDRIII will be mainstream by then and Core i5 will cost you much less.
Till then your current rig is more than enough.

      any link to confirm this.

I don't see a need for core i3 because current coe2duo line up is more than enough to cover this segment.
