I've got MSI NX7900gs pci-e card. now days it is idling at 49c and goes to 73c while gaming when i opened riva tuner it showed the fan speed at auto and when i click the detect fan speed button it shows it to 25%. Now my questions:
      1. if it stays at auto then will the speed be increased automatically while gaming??
      2. If i increase fan speed to 100% then will it shorten the life of fan or damage it??
      3. What are the safe temps of this card? specially during summer.

      Thanx

Thats coz you arent gaming at the resolution at which you should be with this monster GPU which you got.anything less then 1600x1200 in this game i.e COD4 is waste of GPU power..When you lower down your IQ settings you actually pushing up you CPU alot than you GPU, so that means your CPU and GPU both are scaling well

plus if i open a few things at once my pc restarts
This might be the prob of your PSU as 4870x2 requires about 500W itself as what i think.Further more, try to update any of your drivers..surely it will help you

@ sikisher, i used to get those many frames with one 4870, maybe they are frame limiters on that game. also with so many hdd, and a single 4870's power requirement is 500W min, so its definitely a psu problem. hope its fixed when ur new 1000W psu arrives. also try playing some gpu intensive games, such as crysis at full, or search google for a game which fully utilizes a cross fire setup (4870x2), bcz i've seen games which have better performance with single 4870 than an x2 (due to non optimization of cross fire setup), also two 4870's doesn't mean double the performance of one 4870, but means that when a game utilizes whole of one 4870 capacity, then the other one comes into action. and my friend, at the resolution and games u r stating, a single 4870 will give same performance as 4870x2, cause cod4 and also far cry 2 with dx10 with all max can easily give 35+ fps with a single 4870. so don't worry, run some benchmarks such as 3dmark vantage to check if both of ur cards are being utilized or not. best of luck

edit, apologies to the mods, in the condition that if only the official hardware guru's here are allowed to respond on this particular thread, if that's the case please delete my post , apologies again.

^ yaar i know the difference between two 4870s and one 4870x2, the single 4870x2 is basically two 4870s with 1GB memory each giving a total of 2Gb video memory on a single external cover, but it still works and gives performance almost same as two individual 4870s connected in cross fire.
about one card being disabled, i surely think its bcz of not enough power being supplied to it, maybe some sort of safety precaution in the software, cause not enough power damages any device, do give ur findings after u get the 1000W psu, i hope INSHALLAH ur problem will be solved, best of luck
