Yes, but performance will be very bad. Processor will bottleneck anything above GF 8600 GT.

I have used GF 8800 GS (on par with GF 9600 GT) on a Pentium D 2.8 GHz processor (915) and also on a Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz processor (E4500). The former processor severely bottlenecked my GPU. But with Core 2 Duo, it was great experience. FPS in most games doubled, and in some games; even trippled. Now you do the math.

P4 is not good enough for GF 8800 series.

Any GPU above GF 8600 GT will be bottlenecked on P4 platform.

Although it will be better if you upgraded your setup.
It takes two hands to clap, or does it?

even for 8600gt/9500gt you would have to change your PSU. and I am sure collectively it would cost more than your complete pc.
Have you ever tried going mad without power? It's boring, nobody listens to you!

There are so many OPs who just make a thread asking for help and go about there way..... not even thinking of the people trying to help them.
At least say thanks to these guys or if that's not possible answer their questions!

My suggestion, if your Mobo supports a C2D then get it for now. Processor comes first, GPU later.
