Hmm. Do you see anything in the screenshots that tells you what the problem might be?

Screenshots do not portray anything alarming . However, error scan page (not quick scan but thorough) which identifies bad sectors on HDD is missing.
BTW how do you attribute the problem to HDD? If laptop freezes, there might be some other reason as well ? I mean how you have summed up and concluded that its HDD causing the problem? Why not RAM? It is very much likely that the machine freezes because the memory module gets stuck in a loop.
I believe there is nothing wrong with any of your HDD rather it appears to be a heat or memory issue. You need to monitor temperatures of your system (especially CPUs & HDD). You can use "SpeedFan" or "Piriform Speccy" to monitor these temperatures. If temps are fine, than we can discuss other possible problems and solutions.

Then may b its not hdd problem ... but firstly he replace afterward if problem persists then its not hdd problem but firstly have you run a program call DFT ? is use to test the hard drive.
It boot up and just follow the screen. if it come up green after the test then the hard drive is good if red then is time for a new hard drive.

You may be right, actually. The reason why I assumed it was the HDD was because before my old Seagate failed, everything was perfect and after I had this Samsung installed, things started going awry -- seemed a logical conclusion at the time. Anyway, I'm going to start noting down the temperatures with Speedfan and report back when I have compiled a dossier.
In the meantime, this is what Speedfan thinks of my old Seagate:
Oh and thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate it.
One or two things I've noticed since my last post:
- File transfers from other computers take absolute aeons; '10 hours remaining' for a 800 MB file.
- When the computer freezes, the 'processing' light is on and stays on until the PC blue screens (so essentially it's blue screening).
- I had Speedfan on when it froze once and none of the temperatures was above 50C.
I have a feeling it's a fan/dust issue. Can anyone draw any conclusions from the above?
