[HELP] Samsung 640GB Laptop HDD Issues - Stops responding

I recently bought this Samsung 640 GB HDD to replace my old 750 GB Seagate Momentus. Now for the first two/three weeks, the new HDD ran fine but recently it has started developing problems: after a few hours of use, it just stops responding especially if I've browsed flash video websites in that time (Youtube and such). I thought this could easily be a Windows problem.. so I installed Ubuntu on my machine and it too has problems that are not too dissimilar to the ones with Windows (though it hasn't gone fully stuck on me yet). The HDD has a 9 month warranty and I might take it in to get it checked/replaced but what I want first is to exhaust any and all checks (software or hardware) just to get to find out what the problem is.

So fire away PGers, tell me what I need to do now?

Nope. Brand new, hence the 9-month warranty.

Yea I was thinking the same thing about the warranty. Was your system running stable with your previous 750GB HDD?

Why did you change seagate with samsung ? Was there any problem ? Have you checked / scanned your instant drive with HD Tune ? Have you ever noticed / checked temperatures of your drive after use of 2~3 hours ?

It was stable until it died, well sort of. The old Seagate is detected by the system and everything but every time I try to partition it, format it or do anything really, it gets stuck and I have to restart the system.

I think I've answered why I changed the Seagate; as to why I replaced it with a Samsung, well it was the only HDD I could find on the market. There was some kind of international shortage of HDDs that everyone used to cite.

I haven't done any of the other things you mentioned though, I'll get right on that and report back.

I bought it from a local shop here in Peshawar.

Also as an additional point, I've noticed it gets stuck far earlier if I stream video for example on a program like Sopcast.

Well lastly, does it only hang during partitioning, formatting? or also due to some other things like opening applications?

That's the old Seagate not the new Samsung you're talking about, right? Well, basically when I start the PC (Windows is on the new Samsung), it can detect the Seagate but when I try to do anything to it, it stops detecting it.

Anyway, a couple of screenshots of HDTune:

Well it seems that this is the only new addition to your new system and is also most likely to be causing the problem. If would be good if you could claim warranty from where you bought it from.
