[GUIDE] Xbox 360 Controller For Windows

Ok here is a small guide for newbies who want to use Xbox 360 controller on their Windows based PC.

First of all you should know that you can use any xbox 360 controller on your PC (you don't have to buy the speical packed known as "Xbox 360 Controller For Windows as it will cost you more and only comes with a driver CD, which you can download for free from the MS website, check the link below).

You can use both Xbox 360 wired controller and Xbox 360 wireless controller on your PC, for the wireless controller you'll need "Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows" which cost US$ 20 and it's not available in Pakistan (at least I haven't seen one in karachi..maybe you'll be able to spot on in lahore).

Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows looks like this:

Ok, the installation procedure for both the Xbox 360 wired/wireless controller is the same, so just follow these steps:

1 - First Download and install the Xbox 360 Accessories drivers package for windows which let you conntect xbox 360 accessories inculding the controller on your windows based PC. you can download the latest package from HERE.

2 - Once you downloaded the right package for youe version of windows then install it, after a successfull installation connect your Xbox 360 wired controller or the Xbox 360 wireless receiver to your PC USB (powered USB ports, the ports at the back of your PC).

3 - As soon as you connect your controller Windows will automatically detect it, and yeah you are done here. Now if you want to callibrate your controller or want to test the settings then just visit Windows Control Panel and then click on the "Other Hardware/Sound" icon and then select/click on the "Controller" icon, a popup window will open from there you can select your xbox 360 controller and can perform the settings:

Screenshots (I am using Windows Vista, XP settings is kind of similar too):

Xbox 360 controller on windows based PC is already compatible with nearly all the new games specially with the onces which have been released under the name of "Games For Windows", you can see the catalog at:
      http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US...s/Catalog.aspx

Now, if you want to use the Xbox 360 controller with the games which don't support it officially then don't worry, there are few third party utilities are available which let you use the controller with the other games as well like with Call of Duty 4, Counter Strike, Half Life 2 etc...

Here are the thrid party software to extend your xbox 360 controller compatibility with the other games:

      1 - SwitchBlade

      Download Link:

      2 - Pinnacle Game Profiler

      Download Link:

      3 - XBCD+ (Xbox Controller Driver Plus)

      Download Link: Click Here

There are might be some other utilities too, you can always use Googlel.com for that for now this guide is sufficient to get you started quickly and smoothly.

I think you will get best rates at Hall road. I purchased X360 Wired Controller for Windows (new, properly packed) from Playstation Club Liberty (next to HKB in Liberty market Lahore) for Rs.2,500 a couple of days ago.
