Internet Connection Condition Specially for online gamers only

Hello,

You guys would have heard of Speedtest.net and Pingtest. They both are owned by the same company. They are big, Reliable and Very accurate. They have servers all around the globe.

The best thing is that its a one stop and go solution to test your connection. For Bandwidth simply go to Speedtest.net and check. For Internet connection quality/Efficiency go to Pingtest.net

In pingtest. They will tell you your packet Loss, Jitter and latency. They Three important factors you need to know while playing online games etc.

Packet losses: if you have these then you your connection is in pretty bad shape. Get it fixed if you covet connection efficiency and realiability.

Jitter: This is hardly ignorable since jitter will always be on the net but it should be controlled . See whats your jitter like. Its basiacally the variation of your ping. Less jitter means your connection is realiable while high jitter means its not realiable at all.

latency/Ping : Less the ping better the signal in and out.

In the end pingtest also gives you a Rough Grade as to what is your connection like . Summarizes it. I have researched a lot on it and would like to help any fellow Pakgamers who are looking for better internet connectivity.

I have been following this since the days of Dial-up but was unable to play Warcraft III online competitively. I got to lv 18 but the ping didnt allow me to play better than that. The best pings i used to get was 450 on Europe server ( there were 4 servers of warcraft III not wow). After Adsl came ( multinet) i got that down to 350 on the same Eu server which was the best for us but still the game was unplayable. I did played a lot on Delta and enjoyed it a lot on lan. Then finally we got DSL , Wcall stepped into the scene with its Cable Broadband and i reached 220 -240 ms on warcrat III servers. This was when wow came and warcraft III was ending. Today I do play Stacraft II Online which is based on the new Battle net 2 servers which are very efficient and better then the battle net 1 servers.

Do try around 5 servers on pingtest.net and see what grades you get. Here is one from KL, Malaysia

What i am talking about is something else . I want to dig Deep. Wait a while and you will see what i am coming towards. I have many server address's on my finger tips which i want to share with you. But i will do it step by step.

Secondly this thread is not just about Pingtest and speedtest. I want to measure and help people gain Better connectivity Practically. Not only on paper. one example of that is to run a Tracert directly to game servers ( realiable ones ). To see what you are getting Practically . Live results. Ok I will start one. Lets take the Warcraft III Europe server. Try to run a Tracert in command prompt. Do this :

Now this is what i was talking about. Once people try to follow my lead i can really help them out. Internet connectivity is very important if you are serious about Online gaming and ofcourse thats what my title says. I am targeting online gamers specially.

Nice to hear from you Sharoze. I posted 3 results. One was on Kl, Malaysia via Pingtest.net. Other was Rome,Italy via Pingtest too. Lastly i ran a Tracert on Blizzards Warcraft III Reign of Chaos server which is based in EU to get some live gaming pings too. I am getting 155ms on Eu warcraft III server.

Packet Loss should not be there. Do you get it everytime you ping Shuwaikh ? IF yes then get your line checked. Jitter is fine. I would says its Extremely Good. Grade D is not good. No matter what your default server is you can always choose the server you would like to ping. Try to Ping Italy and KL, Malaysia. I have posted both my results above. Try to Ping both these copy the direct link and post it here so we can compare.

I have seen people post results from Islamabad who are living in Islamabad getting a " A " result and they seem quiet happy. Actually thats no GOOD !!!! . No internaltional gaming server would be based in Lahore and Islamabad. One should test your connection on server based in EU since every game has a Eu server and thats what suits us the most. Us server are far and there is not need to connect to them when we can choose a server in EU. So even if you find a server in Lahore its no good. You have to achive results on Servers that are a bit far like EU.

Who is playing SC II nowadays. What pings are you getting ?

Here is a tracert to Sc II server Europe. Which i guess is the fastest for us. If not Do paste a better tracert if you can on some other servers like U.S, Asia or Korea.
This tracert is been run on a PTCL 4mb connection from Hyderabad.

As you can see the PTCL 4mb connection can get a 200 avg ping on SC II server Eu. sometimes its a bit less then 200 sometimes a bit more.

The Asia server gives a avg of 300 ms which is not good at all. Further more the Hops are more then the Eu server.

yesterday i got the Tracert done to Blizzards Starcraft II Server on a PTCL 2mb from Karachi. Here are the results.

File compression makes it abstract. I will summarize it for you. basically its on a avg of 220 ms and takes around 13 hops. I think with a more reliable internet connectivity one can easily improve on this.
