copper or fiber ?? does it really matter ?

hey guys i asked the PTCL Broadband operator for upgrading my PTCL from 1Mb to 4Mb. he said ur wire is of Copper .. MAY BE this will reduce ur network speed(remember he said may be as he was not sure).. u should stay on 1Mb or have to change ur wire in Fiber ...although Exchange office Of PTCL is very near to my home.. is it really necessary to change my wire to upgrade my net into 4 MB..

this is what pings iam getting right now..

Not necessary, depends on your line conditions (pair, dropwire e.t.c)

Sorry to say, but the ping is not good
PTCL Client to Server, the ping is high. My home telephone connection wiring is really old and runs through rather conventionally, but still i get around 60ms on PTCL server. Two of my friends on PTCL, they get pings to each other around 30 - 40 ms..... But I am ok with it as firstly, I don't have time to sort it out until exams are over, and secondly, I don't feel any lags in Games, VoIP, VPN, Remote Contols.... so its fine for me as far as its working.
As for Copper vs Optical Fiber, those areas which are under Optical Fiber, means they have been re-wired, and obviously, the rewiring will improve line condition and stats. For 4mb, Copper is fine, as far as the line stats are fine. And I already told you about the wonders that the Lineman can do.
Also, go to your modem's webpage and take a screenshot of your line stats from there. Will help us determine more about your line condition....

Ping is high. Post line stats from modem page like FJhunter said & also post a ping result of "games.dsl.net.pk"

      C:\Users\Striker>ping -n 5 games.dsl.net.pk

Pinging games.dsl.net.pk [58.65.171.54] with 32 bytes of data:
      Reply from 58.65.171.54: bytes=32 time=51ms TTL=54
      Reply from 58.65.171.54: bytes=32 time=52ms TTL=54

      Reply from 58.65.171.54: bytes=32 time=51ms TTL=54

      Ping statistics for 58.65.171.54:
      Packets: Sent = 5, Received = 5, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
      Minimum = 51ms, Maximum = 52ms, Average = 51ms
Here are my results, they have improved over the months but they used to be around 30'ish. But as long as they are not over 60 its fine.

forget that...checked your line stats, they are fine for a 4meg connection as long as your SNR doesn't fluctuate atm.

Because PTCL network is shitty. About ping go to run, type cmd, command prompt will open. Type this "ping -n 5 games.dsl.net.pk"
