[HELP] How to get full 300MBPS speed through Wireless Router/Modem?

I recently purchased a TP Link TD-W8961ND ADSL Wifi Modem.

When I connect my N5110 laptop through wifi it shows it connected through wireless G @54Mbps rather than at N. (Radio set to b/g/n)

Setting wireless radio of router at N only, allows laptop to connect at N @ 65Mbps.

How can I get it to connect at 300Mbps speed? I have seen online reviews that show most of this model routers can connect at 270mbps.

Firmware has been updated to latest.

No comment on never using or needing this speed or anything. If I have a 300 Mbps router, it should work at full efficiency or at least I should know how to get it to work at that speed/

Tp-Link is topi drama. You need to run it at 5Ghz frequency to achieve 300mbps which these routers dont support. However you should be able to connect at ~150mbps. I have a 941ND from TP-Link and my MacBook connects at 144mbps.

And nobody asked the obvious question? Does your laptop's Wireless card support Wifi N? If it supports A/B/G only, it's not the router that's to blame.

I took it to the shop I bought it from and the guy there was quite knowledgeable about this. He explained a number of things.

Turns out, setting the Authentication Type matters in N routers. After changing he security to WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK, the router connected at full 300Mbps speed.

      Modz please close thread. Solved.
