Is this title a PS3 exclusive?

Okay guys so a guy and I were having an argument.
Its about a game called "MLB 12: The Show".

The game is available on the VITA and also on the PS3.

The guy is using his logic and saying that the game is an exclusive to the PS3 (not sure why he is saying that).
While I am saying that its an exclusive to SONY, not to PS3, since it is available on the VITA too.

So what is it? Is it a PS3 exclusive or a SONY exclusive?

A few links I found state that the game is NOT a PS3 exclusive. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...tation_3_games

So what is it lol? Blast away.

Well exclusive to Sony makes sense.

I thought exclusive meant that its only for a certain piece of hardware.

Such games allow cross-platform play, where the Vita behaves as a PS3 controller. Hence, they remain exclusive to the PS3, with the Vita being a key component. Such form of brand extension doesn't hamper the game's exclusivity in any way.

It's similar to the iPad 3 and iPad 1. There are games playable on both, and there are games that only work on the iPad3. Saying that certain games are not iPad3 exclusive because they exist on the iPad 1 makes a weak case.

Btw, the individual Shary was having an argument with is me.

Difference is that this "controller" AKA VITA can run the game without a "console" AKA PS3 in sight.

Both are different hardwares, having different games with no official support to play games of each other hardwares (PS3 cannot run VITA only games, VITA cannot run PS3 only games without hacking a console [like we PC gamers do with Wii Emulation]). Hence multiplatform.

A controller playing a game with no console in sight = game is multiplatform, not exclusive to either ones.

But I will wait for more responses.

If we say that it is PlayStation exclusive, will it make everyone happy?? :P

So? Does that mean a vast library of software available on the iPad 3 is somehow not exclusive because it also exists on the original iPad? Kind of kills the whole point of the term 'exclusivity'.

Also, certain Wii U titles will be able to run stand-alone on the tablet controller with little involvement of the actual console. Do those games somehow become non-exclusive?

The Vita is like an extension of the PS3. As far as these cross-platform games are concerned, it behaves similar to how the Wii U will.

Hmm if the case of different hardware arises then there ain't a single PC exclusive...

People have different hardware setups (different MBs, GFX etc)

But the codes of games are not changed to force the game on the hardwares.

I mean, the game code and all other stuff is same being played on the wide range of hardwares. But in case of VITA playing that game, developers have to code it differently to run the games on its hardware.

Its not like you can take a PS3 game's file and slap it on to the VITA to make it run. That would require special coding.
But in case of different PC hardwares running the game, the game is the same. No alterations are made to the code. I can take a single DVD and install it on a thousand PCs. The game would run.
But I cannot take a single BluRay and slap its files on the VITA. Because it wouldn't work.

The game required 2 different versions to be made playable on both hardwares. One for VITA. Other for PS3.
Whereas in PC, there is only 1 version running on all the hardwares.

Hence I am making the point.

      Really?

What if the hardware requirements are not met?
      The game would run?
