I say you start off from FFVII, FFVIII, (Couldn't get myself to complete FFIX so won't recommend) FFX - (Stay AWAY from FFX-2), FFXII.
Oh and you may want to play Crisis Core after finishing FFVII and then you can also watch Advent Children Complete.

Don't listen to him, Cross is one of the best RPGs ever.
      I wish

It was one of the most disappointing games I've ever played and one of the worst sequels of all time.

@Shary Bhallu TC..............Dude I'm telling you FF XIII is the best starting off point for any beginners or for people who've never experienced FF before. You'll love it, trust me.I went down the same path.

You'll just love the production quality, the awesome visuals and CGI, fantastic voice acting and you should appreciate the fast paced and cinematic battle system too.Once you're done with XIII you'll automatically wanna play every other game in the series
I disagree, I started XIII first and ended up completely hating it to the point I just stopped playing. I'm glad I gave the series another shot though. XIII and XIII-2 are completely off-putting to any new (or old) player of FF and should just be avoided altogether. Ofcourse to each his own.

FF1 or 2 are the most basic of the FFs and really have not aged well and the game requires too much time to be spent on grinding. FF3 is decent and the complete edition of FF4 should be played on the PSP. I haven't had a chance to play FF5 yet.

      Chrono Cross is awesome...
The soundtrack, the twists and the story progressing, the battle system and the weapons...
      Everything was perfectly executed...

FFXIII sucked as I ventured deep into it more and more, but completed it anyway for the sake of watching the ending and so..

I remember getting FFIV with Chrono Trigger on PS3...
I think that was a complete FFIV too...

If you want to play a Final Fantasy with the PERFECT battle system then FFX is the only one to have that...
Besides it gives you amazing soundtrack, visuals are much better, story is amazing and what not...

On That Day, Mankind Received A Grim Reminder...

In my opinion PS1 had better Final fantasy titles than PS2 and PS3 combined. Despite that, Chrono Cross was the best JRPG on PS1.

Chrono Cross divided the Chrono fan base into two. There were those who enjoyed the game for its open-ended structure and decent elemental skill development system, and then there were those like me who saw it as a weak sequel.

The connection to the original was certainly there, but it wasn't anywhere near as profound as I was expecting. It was just disappointing, really. The way Cross' writers resolved the fate of the original characters was simply unacceptable. The storyline itself wasn't anything to write home about. Often disjoint and contradicting, it paved way for multiple endings, none of which provided a good enough closure to the game.

When you see it as a stand alone game, Chrono Cross was decent, and it was kind of fascinating to be able to travel across different dimensions and experience altered realities. Plus, the music did a tremendous job of lifting the game's atmosphere; I can't praise it enough. However, as a sequel to the legendary Chrono Trigger, it didn't quite succeed.

Chrono Cross has the best OST in all of square enix's efforts, so it's definitely worth a play just for the amazing music.
