thats the issue, when i run asm2launcher it doesn't start, says windows encountered problem and shuts down. cannot even start from there

with the game icon it atleast starts but in a windowed mode

the more i enjoy this game the more it pisses me off !!!
combat is unresponsive during some missions so the camera too !!
though its super fun to web-swing from one building to another in free roam

Is no one interested to have a simple game with maximum fun and cheesy plot? I swear Swinging around, jumping at top of the buildings and web swinging to another one was just SO MUCH FUN. I loved the first game.

So you can see i had some expectations they'd make the 2nd game a little better. BUT, apparently they didn't care to improve anything, specifically for PC. There are some major Performance issues (Yet another horrible console port. WTF!?), and that too for no damn reason (i don't have a lack of resources). It looks and feels exactly like the first game. I expected them to atleast upgrade the engine, or use DX11.


Anyway, i haven't "really" started the game because of its performance issues (wishing for a patch or something to fix the performance). Haven't completed a single mission yet. But the Into seemed to be made to cater for those who haven't played the first game. I mean, you can still understand "The Amazing Spiderman 2" just fine, because they have tried to explain everything in such a dumb way (giving out as much info as they can --- i hate it when they do it, try to 'recap' the story for the sake of others who don't know it)

I am 77% into the game at the moment. As always, I am thoroughly playing it, finding all the Comics (got 290 so far, about 10 left), destroying all the Oscop Metal Boxes, Finding and Upgrading all Spiderman Suits and basically fulfilling every other challange there has to be fultilled.

I can see that the story is much shorter than the first game. Not only that, its half assed (well, looks like it, so far).

I have defeated the The Fisk aka "Kingpin", and have been introduced with the new Harry Osborn i.e. the Green Goblin.

Spidey haven't lost his sense of humor. Roaming around the city, fighting bosses and babbling randomly is his ... wit lol The "Fat-Jokes" during a fight with The Fisk.

The character of Felicia Hardy is sexy as hell. Its obvious she is head-over-heals down for Spidey but doesn't admit it. I am glad their ... "Romance" continued from the 1st game. Not just that, her character is the most interesting, after Spiderman ofcourse.

I have numerous complaints with The Amazing Spider-man 2, a few of which are not really game breaker but are sad to have been left that way.

The primary is "Performance". Its a half-assed Console port with absolutely ZERO optimizations for PC. Even on lowest settings, the game lags so bad that its almost unplayable (i have a GTX680, so resources are not a problem, if you are thinking along those line). Its unfortunate and deeply disturbing because the 1st Game was Absolutely Brilliant in terms of PC Optimizations, and that was another reason why it was a sheer excitement and absolutely FUN. However, the atrocious performance of this game is REALLY killing all the fun for me.


Moving on ... here are some of the +ve and -ve i have observed so far.
+ When Spider Sense is enabled, Stars appear on the Mini-Map to find Comic Books, and Oscorp Metal Boxes (when we are passing by an area which has one), which made them much less difficult to find. (In 1st game, there was NO indication whatsoever and some of the flying pages in the city were heavily scripted, where they'd disappear for indefinite amount of time, if you fail to grab it.)

+ Heroic acts are new. You now have to "run for it" otherwise you face the consequences. Previously you could wait like till the end and still Choose not to respond over to such missions.

+ More variety of Heroic missions is good.

- Boss Fights are so underwhelming that its not even funny. Okay maybe not that bad, but as compared to the first game ... they really are. The only fight which deserves some credit, was with "Electro" (that Max Dillon character), which was really amazing. I think its because of the "Electric Bursts" which were also adding to the visuals, in the night.

- Can't esacape from crime scene by the press of a button. In 1st game, when our health was low, Spidey could "Retreat" from the crime scene by the press of a button, and Spidey would Web-Sling on a high pole or something.

- Can't eliminate multiple enemies in Stealth Mode (previously we could repel down the wall and take down two enemies standing next to each other easily). I found that very annoying, especially when Spidey is crawling on a ceiling, right above an enemy but can't take him down with his Web, unless we repel down ... that too only works if we appear on his BEHIND.

- Seismic Blast (new ability) have made the combat a bit too easy.

- Signature moves are not fun anymore, and are a bit too boring.

Seriously. The ending was such a half-assed one that it almost made me cry. A huge facepalm was mandatory.

The story is so short, that you could finish it in just 3 hours, maybe even less. Its a joke. And it doesn't just end there, its like they have intentionally left everything "all over the place". I expected more of Felicia Hardy atleast. Even Green Goblin & Venom, despite having satisfactory boss fights, failed miserably in story department. The worst of all, the ending also comes out of nowhere, when i wasn't even expecting it. And i was like "this can't be the ending", but sadly it was.

*Sigh. Anyway, its a shame that as compared to the 1st game, its such a disappointment. Because they slightly altered the Swinging Mechanics, its much less fun just swinging in free roam. And for that very reason, its also much less fun to free roam. In 1st game, you could simply swing from building to building and not get bored, but this time ... first it was the atrocious performance which was making me dizzy, then it was the altered mechanics.

Right click for "Right Arm Swing" and Left Click for "Left Arm Swing" ... and Spidey won't do it unless he is surrounded by buildings -- basically when you are way up high ... Web Swing was totally useless, and you'd mostly rely on that "Tap to Fast Reach" sort of thing ... in my case it was "E" button.

If i have to rate The Amazing Spider-Man 2, i am really sorry to say this but i'd rate it 6/10. There are far too many problems with it and it looks like a half-assed attempt on making a 2nd game in the "new" Amazing Spider-Man Franchise. I sincerely hope The Movie (The Amazing Spider-Man 2 2014) is not like this.

Moving on .... Almost everything is finished, except for a few challanged, which i wil complete shortly. But the most important thing (for me) are those Audio Logs. I have only collected about 25, scattered across the city. I am going to collect them ALL because they are crucial to the story.

Just got the complete 40 Audio Logs. The most pleasurable to hear, were of Felicia Hardy, and of Fisk. The voice acting by the latter really really amazed me Such brilliance

Anyway, my current game completion is 96% and i plan to leave it at that. Only a handful of combat challenges are left (in Spidey Game at the Comic Store) ... and given the lame combat experience, i don't feel great about completing them. Also, My score about the game doesn't change. (Though i still love Felicia Hardy )

A word of advice to anyone planning to play it ... make sure you backup the save games along with your gameplay. Both of recent "Amazing Spider-Man" games have a tendency to corrupt their saves, especially if your PC turns off in load shedding hours while you are playing it.
