Xbox 360 (LIVE): Troubleshooting NAT issues

      SYMPTOMS

The network test that is performed on the Network status screen for the Network Address Translation (NAT) address shows a status of OPEN, MODERATE, or STRICT. If the status is OPEN, you have optimal settings for Xbox Live connectivity.

If you receive a MODERATE or a STRICT message, you may experience the following issues: •You cannot join certain game sessions.•When you are playing a game with other people on Xbox Live, you may not be able to hear what they are saying.

      CAUSE

These issues may occur for several reasons including but not limited to the following: •Main Cause : Your Ports arent Open or are not forwarded Correctly.•Note You may experience the symptoms with the Network Status set to OPEN when you play against another user who has their Network Status set to MODERTE or to STRICT NAT. The host of the game will have to resolve the NAT issues accordingly.

Xbox 360: Port settings for Xbox Live

      SUMMARY

This article describes situations where you may have to configure port settings on your networking hardware to connect to Xbox Live.
      MORE INFORMATION

Most broadband routers use Network Address Translation (NAT). Windows Internet Connection Sharing also uses NAT.

For most devices that use NAT, port forwarding is not required to connect to Xbox Live. This is especially true if you use an Xbox Live certified device. Port forwarding should only be needed if you use a proxy server or a true firewall device instead of, or in addition to a NAT. Sometimes, you may have to configure port settings on a non Xbox Live certified router or gateway.

If there is a firewall device between the Xbox console and the network device, you may have to configure the firewall to enable communication on specific network ports. If the NAT status in the Network Status area of the Dashboard is "moderate" or "strict," you may have to configure port settings.

The following ports must be available for Xbox Live to operate correctly: •UDP 88•UDP 3074•TCP 3074

Forward these Ports and You will be set to go !!!

This is how i open ports on zyxl modem and it open NAT too on 360.

Open a web browser like internet explorer or Netscape. Enter the ip address of your router in the address bar of your browser. In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the ip address of your router. By default the ip address should be set to 192.168.1.1.

You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now. By default the username is admin, and the password is 1234. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

Click the NAT link near the center of the page

There should be a dot in the SUA Only setting. If this isn't the case, you can not setup port forwarding without making a major change to your network. I wouldn't advise changing this unless you know what you are doing. Alright, if there is a dot in the SUA Only setting, go ahead and click Edit Details.

Xbox Live 360 requires you to forward the 88,3074 ports. Go ahead and enter the settings shown above into the Edit SUA/NAT Server Set menu.

      1. Start port no. 88 End port no.88 IP Address 192.168.1.2
      2. start port no. 3074 End port no. 3074 IP Adress 192.168.1.2

When you're finished, click Save near the bottom of the screen to save your changes.

If you have manually entered ip and dns address on 360 then set it to AUTOMATIC it should open NAT.

just put ip address provided by th internet provider like i have ip address 192.168.1.2 and the default gateway is 192.168.1.1, don't put default gateway ip address.

you can view ur ip address by just going to support on lancard or check tcp/ip.

don't put this ip address on NAT>port forwarding when u r adding, just add this ip address 192.168.1.2 if this ip is showing on ur lan card status>suppport.

now in NAT port (80, 3074) forward to 192.168.1.2....zyxel has dhcp server with ip pooling starting with 192.168.1.2.... .. on xbox ip and dns both automatic.....

still xboxlive network test shows NAT strict...arggghhh.......
