      watching videos...

      how can i run avi or other file formats on xbox...i tried running them but they require an update. is there a way around this??

      Try to convert the video in to readable extension then

      You'll need to download the media update for J tagged consoles from the net.No way around it.

      ^ the update is present and works for "normal" consoles as well, you just need to stick it onto a 360 formatted USB.

      Yeah you're right.It's as simple as using Xtaf to put it in the right folder.

      Its a shame the 360 can't play MKV native, but my 360 and PC are connected to the same monitor so its not a big deal for me personally

      ^^Same here, I have to press a buton on the side of my monitor to switch b/w PC and Xbox 360 displays.It's convinient.

      You may try another way, convert these avi or other files to an xbox friendly format like mp4 or wmv.
      see: .avi to .mp4 for example.
      you can use Handbrake.
