Smile [HELP] Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 7 - Risky or Not?

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on my PC. I just installed "Microsoft Security Essentials" anti virus on my PC as it was required. During its installation I read that this anti virus regularly scans and checks whether the Windows on one's PC is genuine and if found non-genuine it would lock the operating system. I don't know whether the Windows on my PC is genuine or not and also I don't want to take this risk because I have many important things on my PC. So I am asking you whether whatever I have read is correct? And is it really risky to have "MSE" anti virus on my PC? Please inform if it is risky and does what I have read. Also suggest me some other good anti virus if that is the case. Thanks in advance for your help and with my best regards.

i have MSE on a non-genuine windows 7 & it hasnt given any problem yet, maybe it depends on how u have activated your windows, if u have used a loader/bios mod or removewat, then no worries. just dont auto update, uncheck all updates with windows activation & hopefully u will be fine.
if u want a free, light & effective antivirus, in my experience avira antivirus is the best, although i prefer a cracked nod32

If you have an Updated Windows, and have either removed the "WAT (Windows Activation Technology)" or "Removed/Blocked the KB971033 Update" then you have not to worry about anything.

Its a good Anti Virus Software. Not the best, but will do nicely.

If you want to try other products, then i will only advise you to get Norton Internet Security 2012. Easily the best Anti Virus software available, yet easy on resources.

^ If you have the Service Pack 1 Installed, then you dont have to worry about anything as the update KB971033 (which is known as Activation Killer) was only in previous versions i.e. before SP1.

If you dont have SP1, then that depends if you update your windows or not.
If you have updated your windows, then its might already be installed in your system. But your OS is not blacklisted, i believe its NOT.
If you dont have updated windows, then it might be lurking around in "Windows Update", in which case, just HIDE IT (Right Click>Hide) and prevent to install it.

Remove WAT was a procedure to remove that update KB971033. Its only needed when the specific update has blacklisted your OS and/or is preventing you to use your OS.

You can use it without issues.

However, just make sure that you don't install KB971033 update if you don't have legit OS. Once a non-legit OS get flagged by this update, MSE will not work properly or disable itself.

But if you are using legit OS then nothing to worry about even with all updates installed.

I am sure the OS is non-legit since it has been installed by a friend of mine from a Rainbow DVD. Also it has now updated to SP1. I will keep a watch on KB971033 update and whevever it arrives I woud hide it. I have just checked Windows status and it says "Activated".

^ If windows is Updated to SP1 then forget about KB971033 as it does not exist on SP1. So to keep it short, you can go ahead with the installation.
