sci-fi:

blade-runner
contact
alien / aliens (the rest aren't as good as these 2)
children of men (very under-rated, very very good)

also, look into "ghost in the shell". it's anime, but it's one of the best peices of sci-fi i've ever come across. the first movie is slightly dated, but the two seasons and the second movie are pretty darn amazing.

adventure:

apocalypto (probably one of the best movies ever made)
indy jones' first 3 movies, if you haven't seen them already
back to the future 1 2 3
national treasure 1 wasn't a suck-fest, you could look into that as well.
