Middle-Earth! (Lord of the Rings + The Hobbit) Discussion

I've been a fan of the LOTR series since forever. I was like 5 years old when I saw my first LOTR movie (Return of the King). I did not know what was going on, but the battle sequences were awesome - so, I loved it.

Since then, I took an interest in Tolkien's works. I've read all the novels and I'm desperately looking for The Hobbit (it's not in stock anymore).
The movies were fantastic - one of my favourite series of all time! I consider it to be better than Star Wars ._.

The acting, the OST, the story, the scenery - They're all PERFECT. Even the special effects are good, for their time.

      So, any fans here?

I've seen all 3 films multiple times and I agree they were alot more entertaining than any of the Star Wars films.Excellent films, Can't say anything about the novels.

Seriously? Comparing LOTR with Star Wars? -.- They cant be compared for the same reason Gladiator cant be compared to Ben Hur and for the same reason why Friday the 13th can't be compared to Nosferatu
Remember there are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

Yup. Lord of The Rings was the first trilogy I ever read and man it was amazing as a book and Peter Jackson did a good job with the big screen adaptation.

The entire LOTR canon can only be compared with Narnia to some extent, other than there has not been any such lengthy work of fiction that can par up with LOTR.

Game of thrones, GOR, Aragon, etc etc they're nowhere near LOTR.

Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings literally cannot be compared. Stars Wars has more than five parts instead of three and also has a different story line.
Both the series were made outstanding and I'am a big fan of both of them.

Its like comparing just the company's BMW with Ferrari, German vs Italian power. Both are unique and great in their own way.

Blasphemy! You mentioned Star Wars () in the same line as LOTR?I personally found the LOTR trilogy books quite boring. Only in the sense that they dragged too much. It was full to the brim with useless description of scenery and lengthy poetry. *cough* Tom Bombadil *cough*.Although the movies were excellent and did a great job in managing to put the relevant points forward, efficiently."The Hobbit" was a terrific book though.

Its the lengthy description that gives you an idea of what the character sees and feels!

I saw the ending to the third one on HBO when I was young. People tell me the entire series has been ruined and there's no point watching the trilogy, even though I have the extended versions on my HDD since forever.
      What say?
      I've seen that
      Spoiler: show
Two guys go up a mountain, some annoying harry potter type goblin gets in the way but whatever one guy gets injured, the other throws the ring in something. The tower with the eye collapses and some random army vanishes. That's ALL of LOTR I've seen.
