advice to pre-meds: soch samajh kar is field main aao, yahan wohi kaamyab hai jo ya dervaish hai ya junooni. pesa kamana hai to business karo, medical nai
advice to med students: prepare for post-graduation NOW. mbbs ho jae ga aur phir socho gay k kia karna hai. abhi se socho aur tayari start kar do. esp jo log usmle wagera karna chahtay hain, never under-estimate the importance of incorporating kaplan series/First aid/goljan along with ur regular course books

Dr Haroon, i know what your concerns are, my whole family is doctor and i gotta say this is one of the toughest field but it doesn't mean it has no charm.
BTW i dont agree with your "earning money" point.... Just after you are graduated and if you get through commission you are going to earn 51k...... What you mention is actually the concern of past, now after sindh governments announcement and subsequent pay raise made this field the field of choice.....
Seriously just think about it this way, one who do BBA (graduation), do you think he would be able to get the job of this amount of pay

& since ur whole family is doctors(Mashallah), u had a slightly easier ride
& yes, a gp can earn a lot of money with private practice & stuff, like one of our professors said:"doctor apni education aur apni ethics ko bhool jae to paisa he paisa hai"
i agree that pay raise has somewhat increased the "charm", which is still way less than BA->CSS & "afsari"
before the pay raise, my advice to pre-meds was: abandon ship, run away, do anything worthwhile with ur life but dont be a doctor unless u r a junooni or dervaish.

aur BBA has no comparison with MBBS, not in the time spent (6years inc house job of really tough life after 2 yrs of tough fsc, after a really good score in matric vs 4 yrs of ayashi after a whole "bachpan" of ayashi), & compare the merit of bba vs mbbs

Seriously you dont need to keep aside your ethics to earn money...... I have seen my dad, my uncles and my grand father working very hard, they get calls at 3am or 4am for emergency, they work day and night after all they have to play with human lives. My father is a surgeon so i have often came across the complicated cases where patient losses its life and guess who is to be blamed for, the doctor.
And BTW, the government job for a doctor is unto 3pm as opposed to the BBA or MBA maybe who spend their evenings even at the banks or whatever their place of work is

i dont think i have to add anything- drs work their ass off & what do they get in return? ridicule, beatings from distant relatives of the patient, even criminal cases over matters which are not under their control. do they get paid enough? if that was the case, we wouldnt have any private practice. the "respect" they get vanishes as soon as the patient pays a "hefty" sum as fees. i've heard people who would easily spend 3-4000 on a dinner literally abusing drs for taking rs500/1000 for being too selfish & zaalim

tell me one thing...having a sindh domicile has any advantage when applying to top medical unis like K.E etc? I did olevels but after getting my result equalised to matric % , it is 85%. Is it enough to apply for top medical unis in Pak?
