[GUIDE] How To Lock 1000fps on a Counter-Strike Server

How to Lock 1000fps on CS 1.6 Server (Windows)

Half-Life 1 (CS, DoD, NS, TS, TFC, HLDM...) server by default runs at only 64fps. To get higher fps, you've to force your CPU to use high timer resolution, of course you can install Metamod plugins such as HL Booster for that matter, but what if you don't even use any 3rd-party mod at all or running a scrim server? Besides that, these plugins are buggy and can cause lag!

      Installation:

      • Open your server.cfg with notepad, located in your cstrike directory, then type sys_ticrate 10000, save and close
      • Download TimerResolution_by_PG.zip, extract anywhere on your drive and double click on the "TimerResolution.exe"
      • Set timer resolution at "Maximum", minimize, and leave it running
      • Finally, start your server

Note: If you're using an old version of Microsoft Windows, like XP and such, then you're not going to get more than 512fps because of some Kernel restrictions.

      Edit: See screenshots below:

      Before:

      After:

At default fps ping was around 11, 12, 15 (average ping 11ms).
      While with 1000fps it was like, 1, 3, 5 (average ping 2ms).

Conclusion: The more fps your server has, more stable gameplay you'll get, less chokes, and etc.

Though, 1000fps (sys_ticrate 10000) is not recommended for normal/fun servers, and is recommended only for scrim servers. Else 256fps (sys_ticrate 256) is enough and 512fps (sys_ticrate 512) is more than enough.

This is just absurd. Correlating ping with fps.... Infact going over the refresh rate of your display results in tearing which I don't like.

If you recon this nonsense then I'd rather suggest you not to follow this.

This is not personal liking or disliking, what do you think I don't know about these things? This is true young boy, and is NOT absurd by any mean.

      Server fps matters the most.

      I lol'd.

An advice for respective "senior" member like you, if you don't know about these things, or server thingy I should say. Don't bother posting.

FYI: If you run any HL1 server (GoldSrc engine) on a Linux machine and put -pingboost 3 with sys_ticrate 10000 it'll reduce 20ms pings, so that might be a dream for you, isn't?

You're a gamer so don't try to get in these server managing things that's not your job.

Edit: By looking at your first post, I'm going to guess you're thinking about game fps and here we're talking about server fps.

Game fps might not reduce pings but server fps do. Nvm misunderstandings happens.

The OP is talking about host server end fps. Its not related to the end user by any means. Helps keeping the PLAYERS pings low. Server is forcefully running @ 1000fps in this case. Not the users game.

I'll try this on WC and get back to you guys. Lets see the avg difference between 650fps and 1000fps
