Swapping stock car stereo with a different one?

So I have a City 2011 and it came with a lame-ass alpine deck. It does everything I need from a deck (aux, USB) but it's so dull and boring. I want something with a lot more oomph My question is that I'm rather uncomfortable having the dashboard opened up and just the thought of that in a new car kind of scares me. I had it done on my Corolla 2001 and since then (6 years now) there are sounds that come from the dash when the car goes over a bump -.-

I dont know about city but in many cars you DONOT have to OPEN the dash.
you can either remove the tape from the side screws which are totally visible or you have to open the glove box/from steering side to get to it.
or in some cars the screws are in the front you just have to remove the plastic bezel/face plate to reach them.

I have done it 4-5 times and no sound what so ever.

Your stereo may be good, but the output sound from the stock speakers may be limiting the quality that you're expecting.

For some cars, the dashboard needs to be opened to take out the deck properly, but for most cars, it doesn't need to. Well why don't you try doing it yourself, all you need are basically two clips, have you ever tried it?

Don't, it always turns out to be a mess when you're a first timer :P
Just get the speakers hooked up with an amplifier. You might like it better then..

Nope, many people get this wrong but speakers aren't meant to be hooked up to an amplifier. The stereos own amplifier which is usually 200W is powerful enough to drive these speakers.

Give a go at it, if you can't do it then go to the shop. Most shops remove the console, rather than using two slim steel strip like things to remove the pre directly. Most modern car's centre consoles are held with clips these days so they just need to nudged in between the seams to make the console loose and then remove the connectors, it's pretty simple after that.

Also if ur bound to change the pre then do remember to tell me if ur selling the alpine pre which has aux and usb, cuz i've been looking for a factory pre removed from a car.

Ali Man, it is true. My speakers are Kenwood 718. With amp they are ferocious. Without the amp, it's like there's only treble, no Bass

The Dashboard will be opened there is no avoiding it but dont worry too much about it

I never had it opened in my New City even though mine came with Alpine WITHOUT USB and AUX -.-
But i dont usually drive this car

Had my iDSI's dash opened for a new player and was put back togather perfectly

Well you simply have a useless stereo then.

Car audio amp's were never made for speaker's, only woofers. People anyways connect them to the amp and in a month or two, they blow them off. And the reason why almost all new stereos have 'Sub-woofer control outputs', is specifically made for:

      1) Turning ON/FF the sub-woofer,
      2) Increasing/decreasing the base of it.

All stereos these days have at least 200W built-in amp's already in them. And this also happens to be the main reason to look at when buying a new stereo, to tell you how powerful it is. In short words, a stereos own built-in amp would tell you how good the quality of music is, coming from the speakers (and of course by testing and comparing it with other stereos).
