Packaging:
Just as what we expect from any other budget casing, simple packaging with BitFenix Logo on front and model type as there is Alpha and Beta.
On the back we see the layout of the casing with its main features in brief and details on side.
Inside the Box:
Wrapped in plastic with styrofoam on top and bottom.
The Casing:
Looks are not exactly to die for...but it sure is decent and with the price tag of only Rs. 4200! at iamextreme.net i would not really complain about the looks as this will be compensated with some other features it has.
We can clearly see some of the features right up front which will compensate the looks, as you can easily spot 2* 120mm fan support on top, 1 120mm at the bottom, two pre-cut holes for water cooling at the back! and last but not least bottom PSU placement.
Up front you get 4* USB 2.0 ports at your finger tips! along with two standard 3.5mm connections for mic and headphones.
Close-up view of two 120mm fan support on top.
Casing comes with one standard BitFenix 120mm fan at the back which has 3pin connector that will easily hook up to your motherboard.SURPRISE! Glad to see two 120mm support at the front!, also the HDD cage is wide open which will get you some good airflow right in your hardware.
Sadly...this is the only intake opening at the front.
Closer look on 2* 120mm fan support.
Nice big grill for your PSU ventilation and 1* 120mm fan support right next to it.
Close-up look at the bottom.
Here we have nice Black inside with BIG CPU cutout and also cutouts which may help in cable management.
Here we see 7 expansion slots and 2 holes for water cooling setup.
First i though that all the slot covers are reusable but it turns out that only two of them are top and bottom which are vented.
Closeup look at expansion slots.
Standard front panel connectors including two USB connector which will go straight on your motherboard.
Lots and lots! of thumb screws..as your drive bays will be needing this, Silver Sticker for you to place it anywhere on your casing,
This was something unexpected!...a side panel with screws! but this is no biggie as you can use those thumb screws mentioned above which are perfect!
Nice big cut out for hassle free cooler installation but we dont see any clips to tie down cables and wires.
Closer look at the cable management option and spacing where you can squeeze in the cables for a nice decent RIG.
Conclusion:
Bitfenix Alpha Merc is outstanding case for its price of Rs, 3800 ONLY!. Compared to more expensive models, some of the features are missing as you would expect but all that can be compensated with 8 fan support! and excellent built quality also compared to other casings in the same price range, the Alpha Merc simply blows the competition away!
