I have been using the samsung galaxy 7.7 tab/phone for a month now so i though that i should share my thoughts about it. Needless to say that i am never going back to small phone screens. I may be considered a samsung fanboy but i am more of a particular model fanboy than a whole brand fanboy. And i officially say that i am a samsung tab 7.7 p6800 fanboy and i do not regret choosing it over the galaxy Note. The few things i would like to mention are as follows..
1. PERFORMANCE
The dual core 1.4ghz processor with the infamous mali 400mp gpu makes sure that the performance is great. This is roughly the same hardware that was in my sgs2 but i have to say that this p6800 feels and actually is tons more powerful. Any game or 1080p movie plays great on it without a hitch. The performance is truly sublime with 1gb ram and i don't think there isn't anything this tab cannot do. I mean after seeing its performance you won't be thinking about quadcores for a long time because if s2 was a dual core then this feels like a quadcore as it is damn quick. I recently got a chance to spend an hour on the tegra 3 powered asus transformer prime 201 and i believe that p6800 feels faster than that. It is safe to say that this tab packs a mighty punch.
2. Display
Well this is the only SAmoled display is the world on a tab(as far as i know) and add to that a PLUS at the end so you can understand how awesome it would be. It is a 1280*800 display which makes it roughly 200ppi which is no retina, i can assure you, but being a SAmoled + with all those extra subpixels i dare you to locate a pixel from 5 inches away. I compared the display side by side with an ipad2 and the differece was unbelievable. The ipad had super dull colors compared to this piece of candy and you could see the pixels a mile away. It is safe to say that the amazing contrast and colors of a SAmoled+ is maybe the best display on a tab after the ipad3 till now.
3. Camera
The front camera is 2mp and the main snapper at the back it 3.15mp. The video recording capability is 720p only which is likely to improve to 1080p with the upcoming ics upgrade. The camera is nothing special as i am used to the s2 camera but the quality is okayish if picture taking is not your priority.
4. Battery
With 12+ hours of movie viewing and according to engadget review, the best battery on a tablet, you can be sure that it is amazing. I normally put the tab beside me when i go to sleep for a full 8+ hours and i can assure you that the battery will remain at the exact same point when i wake up as when i was about to sleep. The battery performance maybe the best thing of all. Even with this heavy power demanding display the battery is great.
5. BUILD
It is a thing of beauty for sure. At 7.8 mm thin and a sexy small bezel it is one of the prettiest things out there. When i hold it it feels like a thin biscuit which i might break into half but the build quality is second to none. The alumium back makes sure of that and again adding to the beauty of this thing. Maybe the best built samsung device for those who complain about their plasticy ways. The sim and
micro sd slots are placed outside which is a big ease for me as i have to swap my 2 32gb class 10s all the time and no need to restart while doing it.
6. Software
It is honeycomb 3.2 which is not the best OS as we all know and combine that with crapwiz, you have the opposite of a win-win. I am using go launcher hd with which there is virtually no lag but when i started using the tablet with touchwiz it was lagging like a p3 trying to run crysis. Touchwiz had great features though and the widgets were pretty cool and useful(unlike the other versions) but it is way too laggy to use on a daily basis. A third party launcher makes the tablet shine and when it will be upgraded to ics then the tablet will be put over the top as it is one hell of a piece of hardware. The best tablet by samsung without a shadow of a doubt and the capability of a phone also makes it a huge plus. The tab has many great multitasking features which are quite useful as you can start applications in small windows and move them around while doing your main work underneath. There are no physical home or back button and everything is touch other than the side buttons for power and volume. Safe to say that with ics this thing will blast into orbit.
CONCLUSION
It is a sweet ass thing and i have never used a better android. It is quite expensive but the quality is worth the price. The hardware is magnificent and that is worth every penny you pay. Besides i bought it for about 54k and now it can be bought for 49k on homeshopping. It is a problem finding accessories so i am using the 7.0 tab pouch and screen protector. Samsung did a poor job marketting this product as this thing is better than the other tabs on offer. The only donwside is the price but it is not that expensive in pakistan. I will not be buying a flagship smartphone again as they are no fun to watch movies on. So if you want an android tablet and you have the budget then this is the best atleast for now.
