Sony Shuts Down SOCOM, MAG Developer Zipper Interactive

The studio responsible for PlayStation shooter series SOCOM: US Navy Seals is no more. Sony has shuttered Seattle-based studio Zipper Interactive, calling the closure a "result of a normal cycle of resource re-alignement."

Sony confirmed to Game Informer today that the developer, responsible for seven SOCOM games, PS3 shooter MAG and PlayStation Vita shooter Unit 13, was being folded.

"The closure is a result of a normal cycle of resource re-alignment within SCE WWS," reads a statement. "Zipper has completed all work associated with its most recent project, Unit 13 for PlayStation Vita. Zipper titles MAG, SOCOM 4 and Unit 13 will continue to be supported, including the new Daily Challenges in Unit 13."

Zipper Interactive was founded in 1995 and acquired by Sony in 2006.

I know loads of people who just play MAG every SINGLE day...

But if re-allocating resources mean we can get even more quality titles then we bid adieu to Zipper Interactive...

Besides the sales of SOCOM and MAG didn't meet expectations...

MAG is highly under rated I hear. Some players either become die hard fans or just end up hating it. That game could've been a huge success if it did a few things differently
