Developers of the latest version of Sony's console are expected to include motion tracking technology in the new incarnation.

This is according to rumours on the internet, cited by DigiTimes, which claim the PlayStation 4 will have similar capabilities to the Microsoft Kinect.

Reports suggest that device will include components that respond to the gestures made by gamers in order to compete with other consoles on the market.

In addition, HardOCP has reported that visitors to the E3 expo picked up whispers about plans to use central processing unit technology from AMD in next-generation consoles from Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft.

Nintendo recently unveiled its Wii U, designed as the successor to its popular gaming console and targeting both casual and hardcore players.

It incorporates a similar touchscreen controller to tablet PCs, alongside two analogue sticks, HD graphics and a camera.
