New PlayStation Eyepad controller patent discovered

It seems Sony has been working on a variety of controllers for PS4.
This new patent which was filed in 2012, is about something called the ‘PlayStation Eyepad’.
It has the form factor of a tablet and can work in conjunction with cameras that are actually on both sides of the device to generate 3D virtual buttons and more. You can then use it as any other normal controller. It also features a touchpad, which the PS4 controller was also rumoured to have.

Here’s the official description for it:
An input device for an entertainment device comprises a first main surface, one or more side edges, one or more motion sensors operable to generate motion data, and a wireless communicator for transmitting the motion data to the entertainment device, wherein an elongate illuminated region extends along some or all of one or more of the side edges; in addition the input device may comprise a first stereoscopic camera and a second stereoscopic camera having respective viewpoints located at opposing corners of a first area of the main surface, the field of view of each stereoscopic camera encompassing a first volume of space immediately above the first area, wherein the first and second stereoscopic cameras are operable to generate respective stereoscopic images, from which a first depth map and complementary second depth map may be generated for opposite sides of an object placed within the first volume of space.

So much for splitscreen gaming I guess.
Controllers are fkin expensive already, making it a touchpad variant would be painful for the buyer.

the E3 we watched , if i remember correctly, 2 years ago..was in shyber's home..wiith chandoo, SirAhsan, me, joker(i think) and a couple more guys...the reactions on that were EPIC to say the least...so yeah it will be good

also i would believe it would be far more logical to have the touchpad (if there is any) , to be underneath the grips..as our fingers are constantly gripping it..and our pressure resonates with the actions on screen most of the time (well except when we are not throwing the controller at our opponent in rage and fury as-he-punches-us-when-we-are-midair-in-street-fight- or the 90 min goal in fifa)

Like I said, we Need to do a video conference for this.

A WiiU like controller doesn't seem right for the next PS console. They should just keep a touchpad at the back of the controller (like the Vita) or in the front like how it was previously rumored.

Microsoft Exec Takes a Cheeky Swipe at Next Week's PlayStation 4 Reveal

An executive at Microsoft has said that next week's PlayStation Meeting is “important for the games industry,” but won’t have much resonance with the wider buying public.

Taking place in New York on February 20th, the PlayStation Meeting is widely expected to see the announcement of the PlayStation 4. But for Jonathan Grimes, Microsoft UK's director of marketing, it won’t be enough to reach the mainstream.

"Whatever gets announced on February 20, the majority of UK consumers won't know," said Grimes. "Our job is not to get lost in the industry chatter, but to ensure that the consumers going into stores, going online, still experience Xbox. The announcement is important for the industry, but it is also important to remember who is buying right now."

Grimes' statement suggests that Microsoft is planning something a little more... grand for the Xbox 720 announcement.

In addition, the exec also reflected on the Xbox platform’s progress. "Ten years ago, to think we would be the leader in our second generation is a achievement," he said. "We have great people that have been with us a long time, and now it's about strengthening that team.

"But what has got us to where we are today is not going to be what gets us through the next ten years. Now we've also got to start from scratch when thinking about the future. Driving creativity, whether around marketing, retail or new business models, is key for us."[via MCV]

      - The touchpad at the centre and no select and start physical buttons

-That Light Bulb blue thing seems to me like something related to move technology

-Vita like D-Pad which is the best ever

      -Built in speaker/mic?

-The rest primarily remains the same

are u ok with this guys?
