Heavy Rain Developer Unleashes Short Film 'Kara'

Heavy Rain developer says tech demo doesn't depict the world, story, or characters of its next project, was intended to showcase performance capture technology.

"Kara is not our next game," Cage told the Official PlayStation Blog. "It's not the character, it's not the world, it's not the story. …We do things in a very strange way here, things that have nothing to do with the games we make. But I think that’s a part of the DNA of the studio, and hopefully something that people like about us--they never know what they're going to get!"

I think that the impressive thing about the "tech" demo was the script and how it was played out rather than the tech itself. I mean, we've seen such awesome facial emotion animation techs on other engines too. It wasn't just the tech that made it awesome.

Exactemondo, they weren't showing off their tech with the demo. They were showing off what they can recreate with the tech, for e.g, confusion, fear, sorrow, happiness, etc. All of that can be clearly seen in the tech demo, it was displayed as clearly as a real life performance.

And its not just the emotion but the change in tone from scared to happy, the sudden shifts of the pupils, the flutter of the eye-lids, the elevated heart beat, etc. Everything shown in just 7 mins and executed perfectly, yup I'm sold

In A.I., David wanted to e loved by his mother, that was his only wish but Kara just wants freedom. To have a choice, not to be human but to be free

The direction was superb. How intelligently he wrote how the heart is to be exposed beating faster in her moments of panic and fear. Huge respect gains for Cage man.

Of course there's a difference, I was just remarking about the theme. And I loved it too.

@Shyber: I saw that movie as a kid and at 1st when I realized that they were robots, I wondered when they would get guns that go pew pew and destroy things xD
