As is Nintendo's habit, the company has thrown a fresh coat of paint on a piece of its hardware.

Cobalt blue is the sixth color for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan and, for what it's worth, I think it looks nice. It'll hit Japanese stores March 22.

Much cooler, on the other hand, is the special Fire Emblem-themed system (pictured above). It, too, is cobalt blue and it, too, is headed to Japan. The system comes bundled with a copy of Fire Emblem Awakening as part of a "Special Pack" bundle. It hits the Japanese marketplace April 19, will be sold only via Nintendo's online service and comes with a Fire Emblem point card worth 1,000 Yen.

Also announced today were a pair of other 3DS bundles.

There's a Monster Hunter 3G bundle, (which comes with a black or red 3DS) which hits Japanese stores March 17 and a Super Mario 3D Land bundle (which comes with a white or pink 3DS) which hits Japanese stores a week later.
The Mario-themed bundle comes with the Virtual Console version of Super Mario Bros. pre-installed, which is always nice.

There's no word on whether Nintendo will make any of these special 3DS' available in territories outside of Japan, but here's to hoping… especially with that Fire Emblem machine. Man. That thing is sweet.
