The Core series CPU overclocks brilliantly you just need a good overclocking board , personally i have an overclocked E4300 from 1.8 to 2.8 (stability tested with orthos) , about CPU life , it surely does shorten but i have enabled option call "C1E" it is an excellent option which changes FSB with respect to CPU load , my PC when not under high load works at 1.8Ghz at multplier6x and goes 2.8Ghz at multiplier9x when load increases

yes the core series is awesome... it overclocks flawlessly!!! any mainstream core2 CPU when overclocked can beat top Core2 CPUs.. thats the beauty

I haven't seen your mobo's bios but i'm pretty sure you can easily OC it to 3 GHz , You won't find overclocking for your particular mobo because it is not designed for overclocking . Where do you live Muaaz ???

    What is this?
    Other Components:
Overclocking usually causes the PCI bus to run out of spec (faster than normal), therefore, you'll need to buy, beg, or borrow good components that will run OK when overclocked. CD-ROM drives, sound cards, modems, and other miscellaneous components should all be high quality and selected because they can handle being overclocked. High quality doesn’t mean the most expensive ones; you just have to judge the component by just looking at it and using common sense

Firstly, how can you judge a cd-rom, sound card, modem etc can handle being overclocked by just looking at it? And common sense? I mean hats off.

Who overclocks these things anyway. As far as I know, such busses are to be manually set to their default settings and thats it. They will never go higher or lower the set value. And that's what you want to do to keep your hardware safe and long-lived.

And you are missing the important CPU:RAM divider from your guide. You mention DDR2-800 but why?........

Also, if you would have shown pictures or atleast mentioned the BIOS options that one has to go through to do certain tasks while overclocking, it would help the newbie. Of course they wont be named the same but one can look for something similar.

    And a little something here..
Note that you may have to decrease the multiplier if the CPU becomes unstable. Repeat until it becomes unstable.

I hope I wasn't too annoying, no disrespect meant.

Since I am not the author of this thread so I can't say anything about the other stuff which you have pointed out, but in computer engineering system efficiency is the most important factor which includes CPU MIPS, CPU throughput and system throughput.

In leman's terms, if you are using a high clock CPU then one should also use the I/O devices of high efficiency to support the overall throughput of the system.

Getting some sense out of it? if so..then this is the reason which makes the branded PCs more expensive as compared to unbranded ones. But still soundcard doesn't makes much impact on the system performance I don't know why he mention that in the guide.

regarding RAM divers, rafay can answer that..
