Tucked away inside the latest PlayStation 3 firmware update (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/ps3-firmware-1-8-to-upscale-your-old-games-and-dvds/) are improvements to the console's Remote Play functionality, though we'll need to wait until the PSP's 3.50 firmware update drops -- sometime this week -- before samplings the goods proper. Yet still, we're able to sneak a glimpse of the forthcoming update by selecting "Remote Play" from the PlayStation 3's "Network" menu, resulting in a screen that reads: "When connecting the PSP system over the Internet, you must sign in using your sign-in ID, "yourname@email.com", on the PSP system."

Are we looking at the first signs of a universal ID for the expanding (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/14/playstation-network-to-add-video-advertising-and-more/) PlayStation Network? Perhaps a single friends list that will follow you from device to device? Throw in that "long overdue (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/psp-store-is-long-overdue-sony-admits/)" PSP-based PlayStation Store to download those PSone classics sans PS3 -- or maybe some videos (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/01/why-is-the-psp-not-putting-up-a-video-fight/2) -- and you've got a deal.

I think PSN will definately come to PSP but it will only be used to connect to ''Your" PS3 at home , which also has to be turned on to connect to it.

not ONLY that but it will be a network interface within itself as well, i-e a proper shop etc or something to download/buy classic games and whatnot.

PSP owners have been crying for this since 2 years Sony promised it will launch just after the PSP launch and now that it finally has you need a PS3 to use the store.
