Couldn't find any games the shopkeeper was charging Rs.400 for copying one game, 4GB memory stick, headphones some other small stuff 16K in all.


A few questions though

1. How do i check which "mod" my PSP has and what should i have i mean there's "dark alex" and "devhooks" and whatnot.
2. Are PSP dvds real i haven't found any here?
3. Which format does the PSP format? the shopkeeper said i will have to "make a game" i have found download links to ISO's and .CS files? do these work?
4. Which emulators can the PSP run?

Dark Alex is a developer who develops the Custom Firmware for PSP. Devhook is a tool which was previously required to boot pirated games from the Mem Stick. Its no longer needed. as Customfirmware has this functionality built in.

Did you get the PSP with Modchip ??? You can check this by holding down R key while booting up. Your PSP should boot to a different Firmware version. You can check the firmware version under System Sub Menu.


2. Are PSP dvds real i haven't found any here?
Yes they are, I currently have 4 PSP DVDs which have 30 PSP ISOs. And i have seen around 6-7 more.


3. Which format does the PSP format? the shopkeeper said i will have to "make a game" i have found download links to ISO's and .CS files? do these work?
Make a game ?? Not at all. PSP can play ISOs and CSOs. A CSO is compressed ISO. Which has relatively small size but the complete game.

4. Which emulators can the PSP run?
LOT LOT LOT. some of my favorite ones are
N64, NES, SNES, SEGA, NeoGeo, PS1,

Now tell me which firmware version do you have ? and do you have a TA-086 mother board ? You can use this method to check if you have TA-086 motherboard.

To check your PCB version, open the UMD drive. If the code IC1003 is visible on the top-right side of the PSP side of the drive, then your PSP has a TA-082 PCB.

The method of downgrading/upgrading is different for the different kind of Motherboards. Just let me know which verision and Motherboard you have and i'll tell you how to downgrade/upgrade to customfirmware.

It doesn't have a modchip and under SS it says 3.03 B. Yes the UMD code is the same as you said. I downloaded this 10MB game ( puzzle bubble ) but it doesn't run. I checked a burnout legends file it was only 200mb ( .cso ) i mean it has stuff missing right?
And that UMD demo stick doesn't even have any demos just videos, stupid sony.

no, its not a problem, it means that you are laready on a Custom firmware. which means that ISO should work if you placed them properly...

Although i'd suggest upgrading to 3.03 OE-C. Its the most stable Custom Firwmare. OE-B has some issues with some games.

And you SHOULD see the recovery menu if you hold R while turning on your PSP. Its kind of like bios of PSP but only available inCustom Firmware.

P.S The R thing is working now the PSP was going in sleep mode, i see a pinkish screen with giberish on it how can i confirm which version i have?

create a folder called ISO on the same level where MP_ROOT is... and put your ISO/CSO inside it.

It should be like this

And you already told me that you have the 3.03 OE-B there is nothing else to know about right now :)

These .CSO files are pretty small are you sure they contain the full game? and does any of the dvd's have a decent collection of games?
It depends on what you downloaded. All the CSOs and ISOs contain full games. But there are also some ripped CSOs/ISOs available to download. Ripped CSOs/ISOs also contain full game but some cg sequences and/or music is ripped. Like Tekken DR. Ripped CSO is 700mb+ Non ripped is about 1500MB (dont remember the exact size). Also you'll be surprised how small ripped PSX games are. Tekken 3 is only 34MB(without music and ending sequences).

The games in DVDs are sorted via genre. Like i have 1 DVD which contains all the racers(Need for Speed: Underground Rivals, F1 Racer, Burnout Legends and a few other) 1 contains all the sport games(VIrtua Tennis, Snooker, FIFA) so you'll have to check what you want to buy. If you know the dukan wala you can ask him to test the DVD before you purchase, to see what games it contains.

damn man, its almost been a day and i still have nothing to play the Burnout Legends ISO hangs up on loading, still haven't been able to find a good psp torrent site i'll visit Isloo tomorrow to see if i find any dvds there ( i think the shopkeepers here have the dvds but these motherfuckers are not telling instead charging Rs.400-800 for copying games ).
So should i upgrade/downgrade firmware? and how these emulators work?

the Mother of all PSP ISOs http://www.pspiso.com/ you'll find EVERY game there...

PSX emulator is built in. Just copy the PSX eboot in the game folder and it will load.

You'll have to download other emulators. i use dl.qj.net search for the emu you want. Put it under the Game folder. and ofcourse you'll need ROMs

Make sure you follow all the instruction. I dont mean to scare you but there is always a slight chance of bricking. And i dont want you to remember me as the guy who bricked your PSP.

OE-B has been reported to have some conflicts with ISOs... thats why i said that OE-C is much better...

I had some extra cash from 360 savings, i went to get the DS they were selling it at twice its price had 6 games for 3000 each and there were no piracy options so i pretty much had no option.

Get Lumines its awesome. Field Commander is double the fun if you play it with a buddy. Thats how i spend my days at office :D oh and also Tekken DR though you might not enjoy it. Single player mode gets boring pretty soon.

and how excatly can i play Field commander with a buddy wifi or something?You dont need WiFi for Field Commander. There is a Hot Swap mode in the game. Its kinda like playing chess. You make your move then pass the PSP to your buddy and then he makes his move. Its awesome and easy you dont need a 2nd PSP. Just a buddy who knows how to play FC.

Action Game:(You might have to download these, I havent seen the pirated version of these games yet) Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, MGS: PO,

DVDs: Again check the DVDs on the shop before purchasing. Run it on a PC there and see what games are actually inside. I'd recommend the Sports Collection(Virtua Tennis, FIFA, Snooker), the Puzzle Collection[My Personal Favourite](Exit, Mercury MeltDown, Lumines, MGS: Acid 2) and the Action Collection(Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, GTA: LCS)

1. ok dark alex is a psp haxor who has created the generic 2.71 downgrader , 2.5/2.60 gta downgrader , TA-082 downgrader , and the all awesome custom firmwares , btw the latest is 3.40OEA. devhook is a homebrew app made for firmware 1.5 which cn emulate higher firmwares to allow u to play games that require a higher firmware then 1.5
2. yes psp dvd's are real , they contain a bunch of games of psp's i.e ISO's n CSO's
3. the psp is meant to play umd's but with the help of a custom firmware or loaders like devhook on 1.5 fw u can play ISO's i.e images of those umds. and no u dont have to make games
4. the psp can run all sorts of homebrew apps which include emulators as well , there is a gameboy emulator ( gpsp) , nes , sega genesis , neo geo , etc etc etc!

now a lil more info , to install custom firmware like 3.40oea u need a psp with 1.5 firmware , if ur psp has fw 3.03 or below , it can be downgraded to 1.5 and so on , if u have any further questions plz feel free to ask here or PM me , though i am new to pak gamer forums , but i am not new to psp stuff!

yes u can convert an iso to a cso , now u can use psp iso compressor by danny kay , or u can use umd gen v4.0 , though umd gen is difficult to understand , now regardin do they run just as good , yes they do , however in some games like vice city stories , liberty city stories and both versions of smack down vs raw if they r in cso format then they do lag a bit , smackdown lags like hell , now to overcome that prob , go into recovery menu ( only custom firmware) and overclock ur psp to 333MHz , this will get rid of the lag!!!;) though overclockin ur psp will consume more battery
