SCEA Squashes PSP2 Rumors
Source: SCEA
I'ts rapidly becoming par for the course to have one arm of Sony Computer Entertainmnet immediate play down the comments of another arm.
Today's example, comments made by Sony UK's Managing director Ray Maguire. Yesterday Mr Maguire had been hosting the launch of the PSP In Education national inititive and made several comments about the future of the Playstation Portable.
Mr Maguire had commented on the current handheld being the "First iteration" as well as stating that the future held a "smaller and lighter interation" of the handheld.
The internet being what it is, this immediately set off a firestorm of forum postings screaming the glory of the impending lauch of PSP2 by year's end.
Not so fast fanboy, SCEA has fired back stating that all Mr Maguire had done was apply simple common sense and good business sense during a Q&A session. It has long been Sony's policy to issue updated hardware when the time was right. In fact SCEA pointed out that the Playstation 2 has had some 30 versions in its lifespan and only recently saw an actual format change to the slimline edition.
SCEA would also like to point out that Sony has registered the trademarks for PS4 and PS5, but not to expect them this holiday either. The registrations they say are also examples of "good business sense". http://www.digitalbackspin.com/cms/t...=2405&zoneid=1 (http://www.digitalbackspin.com/cms/templates/news.aspx?articleid=2405&zoneid=1)
