It’s time that PakGamers catches up with the makers of Elite Four. A short-film that has garnered much popularity over Youtube and the local BF3 community; it’s no secret that this something we feel really great about. You can view it on Youtube and check it out for yourself. Moreover, the resident BF3 fanboys are gushing all over this. The ambitious project receiving such international attention is admirable and worth talking about. Thankfully, we get the opportunity to interview one of FE’s leaders, AssassinHaseeB, and yes, we got to know a lot of interesting things. On behalf of PakGamers community, we would like to wish Fierce Eagles all the best for the future, and we hope you all enjoy reading this.

Firstly, can you tell us a bit about Fierce Eagles, and how you all came about?

Most of the clan’s founding members, AssassinHaseeB, Gangsta, Killa, Fahad(D3athFr0mAboV3), IN73N53D(Intensed) and Falcon, we all knew each other for 3 years. We were all part of a clan that went astray from what they intended to achieve. We wanted to achieve greater heights with the talent that we had and make a mark on the international Gaming Platform. Hence, we went on to create Fierce Eagles, and ever since then, there’s been no looking back.

How did the idea of this epic war video come about?

It was SpectreRain, one of the clan leaders in FE, who suggested that we should take an initiative to promote Fierce Eagles. The idea was to make something unique and interesting for the audience to watch. He was the mastermind behind everything, be it recording, screenplay or editing – he was the only person doing it by himself. So, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that he was the backbone of this project. Without him, ‘Elite Four’ wouldn’t have been possible. We want to Thank him through this interview and we are very proud to have him in FE.

Why Battlefield 3? Why could you have not done this with some other game?

Simply because this game had everything we needed. Jets, Tanks, Choppers, everything. What more could you need to make a shortfilm where there’s Chaos going on all the time? Battlefield 3 was the answer.

So tell us, what exactly is happening in this video? It’s an interesting concept, but what’s the heart and core of this video?

In this video, when the RU team gets overpowered by the opposition, they bounce back and retaliate with just four Colonels. The skill and tactics of those four Colonels are such that within some time they capture the base and win the game from the opposition.

It’s not over until it’s OVER! That’s what we tried to showcase through it.

How many people participated? And how much time did it take?

Almost Twenty-Five people participated. It took about a month to shoot the whole video and about two more months to get the edit done, as we wanted it to be really good.

How did you coordinate and communicate? It seems difficult to manage such a project.

Through TeamSpeak, we have our own server there. We communicated through that. Yes, it is difficult to pull off a project like this. Especially, when trolls are messing up things. In a good way though.

Honestly, did everything go as planned? Any hiccups along the way?

Alhamdlillah, By the grace of Allah, everything went as planned. We didn’t face any major hurdle along the way. It was smooth journey all the way.

Despite the Youtube ban in Pakistan, we’ve seen Elite Four circling around the BF3 community. Plus, you guys have scored an astonishing +50K views. At some time did you all think that the ban could affect your project?

We waited for a few months for the ban to be lifted but since it didn’t, as we anticipated, we resorted to some other measures. We knew it’d hurt our views because not many Pakistanis, especially Gamers, use proxies or some other methods to access Youtube but because we didn’t want to delay the project any further, we uploaded it to our channel, hoping it gets noticed. Pleasantly enough, we had some really great responses from people all around the world. The feeling of joy would’ve tripled if our Pakistani Gaming Community had also gotten a chance to see what we achieved but we’re happy.

Are you satisfied with the results?

More than satisfied. If it weren’t for ‘Elite Four’, we’d still be confused about what to do to make our country become noticed as a nation that loves Gaming. After ‘Elite Four’ , we got partnered with Pixel Enemy, now we’re in talks with Machinima and hopefully we’ll be partnered with them in the coming days, we got partnered with Youtube. In all of the mentioned categories, we’re the First Pakistani Gamers to have achieved this feat. Something to be proud of, not just for us, but for all our fellow Gamers, as well. This is just the beginning.

What do you think about the BF3 community in Pakistan? Are you seeing a growing trend in competitive multiplayer?

The BF3 community in Pakistan is growing but at a very slow pace. There are two main reasons for that:

1. Not many people have the legitimate game. Some can’t afford it and some are too lazy to buy one.

2. Ping Issues. As we all know, Gaming servers are not a cheap thing to get. They require a lot of money and connections to get. Most big companies in Pakistan don’t even bother to get it, which affects the players a lot. Individuals can’t get a server because of it’s cost and maintenance. It’s the biggest issue that people, who have the game, are facing. Some players even leave the game itself, because of the high pings.

Will you continue doing more projects like these? Any plans for the future?

Definitely! We will be doing some really amazing projects in the coming months. We have a lot of great things lined up for our fans, supporters. We can’t really talk about the projects now, as it’s too early to talk about it, but it’ll be better than ‘Elite Four’ in so many ways. That’s a promise! We just need to get some good editors on board so that we can start off the projects. Projects like these take a lot of time and the editors play a big hand in it.

Besides your listed games, will you guys expand your reach in more titles?

We have an active Clan in ‘Black Ops II’ and ‘Battlefield 3′ but not many others. We will definitely be branching out into other games once we sort out everything that’s on our agenda, right now. Another issue is that of a good team. You need to have a good team to lead in a game. We play FPS’ mostly but we will be looking into other games and for that we’ll be Recruiting. Once we’re at that phase, we’ll definitely post for it on PG and get some really great players to add to our team.

What should your fans look forward to?

Many things :

-Upcoming Series’

- Livestreams

- Great Videos

- An opportunity for some of you to work with us.

As of now, we are also in need of some great editors. If any of you are interested in an opportunity to work with us, contact us on our email ID (Posted at the end of the interview), and we’ll get back to you.

Anything you’d like to say to the readers of this interview?

Keep supporting us. We are trying our best to live up to the reputation that ‘Elite Four’ has earned us and we will not let you guys down.

A Look Back At 2012

Without further ado, we introduce PG’s Best of 2012 Awards. This is the first round of PG’s 2012 Awards. During the weekend we’ll follow on with more awards, and our much awaited Game of the Year. All the selection has been done by Team PG as a whole. 2012 made many gaming memories and we have tried our best in bringing the best of everything to you. We’ll start with the Genre Awards first. We strongly feel that these categories deserve their own space here. Rightfully, many of these acclaimed titles have done their job for us. We hope you enjoy reading our favourite picks.

Navigation: Special Achievement Awards – Game of The Year 2012

BEST FPS

HALO 4

For many, Halo is not just a game; it is a lifestyle. With something that holds such great importance, 343 industries had some pretty big shoes to fill after Bungie’s departure from this beautiful universe they created of Halo. 343i, however, have made what I consider to be the most memorable and powerful game to ever grace the franchise. Not only did they meet everyone’s expectations but they surpassed it on every front. Starting from scratch 343i managed to create one of the best shooters of this generation. Halo 4 is 343i’s love letter to the franchise. This game is perfection from every aspect. Equipped with remarkable gameplay, driven by an outstanding story and presented with breath-taking visuals Halo 4 is probably a game you will find hard to forget. Right from the beginning when Master Chief wakes from cryosleep till the end, you will have goosebumps. Addictive and engrossing, this game alone is reason to own an XBOX 360.

BEST HANDHELD

SOUND SHAPES

It’s easy to overlook a platformer like Sound Shapes, especially when you haven’t quite understood the gist of it. Just about every instrument, beat, and note of music you hear in the game resonates with the level design and, consequentially, affects gameplay. As a portable game, its strength lies in its robust level editor, which makes capable use of the Vita’s touch screen, allowing you to create and share your own levels on the go. This has led to the rise of a large amount of user-generated content that is easily accessible from within the game. The use of creative features and the gradual build up of a dedicated community earns Sound Shapes the award for Best Portable game of 2012.

BEST PLATFORMER

SPELUNKY

Modern platformers are becoming relatively easier. The popularity of platforms started with the success of Mario on the NES. Afterwards, we had plenty of platformers including Sonic. These platformers weren’t exactly as easy as the ones released today. Most of this was due to the lack of Checkpoint system. Spelunky is a sort of nod to those classic platformers, which punished the gamers for each of their wrong move. It was originally released on PC and got ported to XBLA later this year. There is no checkpoint system and we have to restart each level from the beginning after death. What makes it more difficult is how each level is generated randomly and hence we cannot master any level and it’s enemy placement. The upgraded visuals really make it stand out. The animated sprites look great and gameplay still feels solid. In the end, it is satisfyingly an addictive platformer that values your precision and fun at the same time.

BEST RPG

MASS EFFECT 3

“I’m Commander Shepard and this is my favorite RPG of the Year on PakGamers”.

BEST STRATEGY

DOTA 2

Technically we know that this game is still in beta, but the prowess of DOTA 2 is unimaginably too awesome for us. With Valve’s support, the DOTA franchise has single-handedly owned 2012 in terms of battle arena strategy plays. Hours and hours of competitive rage; this game sucks you in like no other. Demonstrating a showcase of skills and aptitude, DOTA 2 is meant to shake up strategies to a whole new level. But other than that the development has been very well consistent; constantly updating and proving why there is so much loyalty associated with DOTA 2. It’s no wonder why this game has a dedicated support even here. Here’s to hoping that DOTA 2 marches on with its domination and keeps us occupied for many years to come.

BEST SPORTS

FIFA 13

The question is rather straight forward, is there any sports game which excites us as Fifa? The answer is a simple no. Other sporting ventures like NBA 2K13 and Madden 13 have made significant ground, but for us the sheer excitement on scoring at 90th minute is unsurpassed. Hold these awards in a different continent and you might get a different result. EA has done it again, but not as comfortably as they would’ve liked. With PES 13 a real threat this year, FIFA manages to nudge ahead by polishing up the immense work put in past 3 iterations. There isn’t any revolution but subtle improvements on the pitch like first touch control, complete dribbling and smart attacking runs combine to really heighten the realism. Off the pitch we are greeted with match day updates, deeper career mode, richer ultimate team experience and a dedicated EA sports football club; all pushing FIFA more into a personal charcterisation. The presentation is excellent as expected and the introduction of skill mini game is a better loading screen than any. The replay-ability is well put due to the different online modes. We simply love it, and at this rate they are looking to hold the throne comfortably.

According to Gamesta.com, Square Enix has added Tomb Raider: Underworld to the growing list of free titles on their browser service Core Online. If you can stomach an ad every now and then, you can play the entire thing for free.

As with all titles on Core Online, players can stream the game freely for the small setback at the hand of periodic advertisements that pop on the screen. People that do not want to see ads appear, usually every 20 minutes or so, can choose to pay a small fee to make them disappear. In this case, it costs $9.99 to remove publicity. Tomb Raider: Underworld will take Lara’s adventure through mostly maritime themed levels, such as the coasts of Thailand and the Arctic Sea.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow hit in late 2010 to moderate success and critical response and since then the Castlevania franchise has been relatively quiet if we ignore the disappointing DLC that Lords of Shadow received. Interestingly however, David Cox, producer at Konami on Lords of Shadow just posted the following image on his Twitter which is also the official Castlevania Lords of Shadow Twitter.

Over the last three years indie games have made a surprising impact upon the ravaging gaming world. Back in 2008 when Braid came out, the word “indie game” popped up to my screen. I was unfamiliar with such games before and was interested. Looking at the screens, I was skeptical. A platformer with flashy colors presenting nothing more than a novel-esque story (which was clearly not the case). But reading all the critical success it gained, I thought why not give it a shot. And ever since that experience, I’ve changed my views on gaming as a whole. Call it a small enlightenment in simple terms.

In the year 2011, Indie Games have distinguished themselves in full-form. With titles such as Braid, Minecraft, Amnesia: the Dark Descent, Machinarium, Limbo, Super Meat Boy and many more, the platform has uplifted the means of corporate-free production and development. It is also worth mentioning that the overwhelming support for these indie developers has been increasing each year. Digital Distribution proving to be a catalyst in their cause, the industry is certainly heading towards success and popularity. Now keeping all that in mind, it’s pretty much obvious what this article is about. I might be quite late at this but in no particular order; here are some of the best indie games of 2011:

To The Moon

Official Website: Freebird Games
Platforms: PC

I wanna start off with this precious gem. Ever since the competitive frenzy of online multiplayer has been taking over the world, storytelling has taken a backseat. Yes the story is there, characters are there and everything is perfectly detailed. But few games focus on the storytelling part. Whether you take it into account or not but open-minded storytelling is what drives the player into the game. And To The Moon achieves that gloriously; something that the mainstream developers should learn from.

Without going too much into the details, the game opens up a genuinely moving story. There are parts of the game where the story sets up an amazing level of emotions. And it’s not only the story that fits so well with the development. The characters have spectacular appeal. Also the OST, especially near the end, hits you to the very core. To The Moon also brings up mature themes (not the ones you see today) extremely delicately. So in short, the experience you get out of this game is wonderfully refreshing.

Gemini Rue

Official Website: Wadjet Eye Games
Platforms: PC

Gold – pure gold for fans of neo-noir adventures. Created by UCLA undergraduate Josh Nuernberger and produced by the ever brave Wadjet Eye Games, Gemini Rue is an indie adventure that delivers quality fiction with intriguing character development. The game is covered with first-class writing. Not only is there depth into the story, but the characters paint extraordinary color to the game. As well as that, the atmosphere surrounding to it is vividly authentic. From the menu to the ending credits, you’ll be occupied with the game’s storyline. It’s a caring treat for fans of the genre and perhaps is the Point N’ Click of the year.

Blackwell Deception

Official Website: Wadjet Eye Games
Platforms: PC

The not-so-famous paranormal series of Rosa and Joey continue with their latest release, entitled as Blackwell Deception. Compared to previous parts this is a very polished Point N Click adventure. We got more Jazz music in background this time. But seriously, character-driven dramedy, exemplary voice acting and admirable puzzles are the significant pros to highlight. The cases in the game always bring up amusing stories. Ghostbusters fans should definitely check this out. The length is fairly alright but paranormal adventures can’t get better than this.

Terraria

Official Website: Terraria
Platforms: PC

Troubled with boredom and in the mood to pass some gaming time? Look no further Terraria is here to save your day. We all know about this. A 2D styled Minecraft-Metroid RPG indie adventure. Explore, dig, craft, customize, fight and build with 16-bit sprites. As simple as that. May seem pointless at first but in no time you’ll be putting up hours and hours into the game. Trust me on that.

Atom Zombie Smasher

Official Website: Blendo Games
Platforms: PC

Blendo Games’ Atom Zombie Smasher is a casual savior for Zombie Games. At least for me the popular genre was heading towards a stale direction and then came this motivating indie title. This was like going back to the days of Plants VS Zombies. On the outside, it seems obvious what it is. Save civilians, execute zombies and restore humanity. But the twist happens to be the RTS design. Gameplay is very thoughtfully laid out. It’s an outright strategy battle with a side of zombies. You win or lose, results are gonna make you come back to play on and on. Definitely one clever piece of indie-RTS design.

Hide

Official Website: Hide – Download / Details
Platforms: PC

Now here’s a surprising horror gem. Free-to-play and requires a few minutes of your time. Nothing too fancy about the visuals and the concept is simple; work out a way to escape. But don’t let these details pass on you. There’s a hell lot more to it. What so many modern generic horror titles have forgotten over the years can be seen here as the basic fundamental principle of perfect horror. Total immersion – that is what this game accomplishes. Dark atmosphere and the chilling soundscapes do the wonders here. It may not have the horror-esque appeal but the setting is amazing. Make sure you don’t miss this out. Recommended to play with headphones and no lights!

The Cat and the Coup

Official Website: the cat and the coup
Platforms: PC

Not much of a game but more of an authentic documentary. World History fans should love this. Think of it as a fascinating storybook with magnificent artwork. The details are quite interesting actually. To move forward you work through physics-based puzzles, as simple as that. It takes about 15 mins to finish and is very much worth trying if you’re looking for an infamous coup d’etat. Oh and it’s free.

Nous

Official Website: DigiPen Games
Platforms: PC

Without a doubt, this is the best freeware indie of the year. A terrific take on identity crisis. It’s an actual game that claims to be a program to discover your real identity. Interesting, ain’t it? Without over-detailing it, lemme just say that the gameplay offers top-down shoot’em up elements, like of flOw. But the catch here is the weird guide or the program so to speak. And the game sucks you into its own world. Like you really shift your thinking as you progress through the stages. With that narrative, you’ll be hooked till the end (I certainly was). It stirs up quite a fascinating experiment.

Frozen Synapse

Official Website: frozensynapse.com
Platforms: PC

Frozen Synapse is a game that has a splendid mix of turn-based and real-time strategy. It may not seem all that appealing but it is an anticipating title that offers marvelous value. Obviously this is for the gamers who are obsessed over planning tactics. Featuring a contrasting single-campaign with a formidable A.I, the gameplay is impressively intense. But the real fun begins when you start taking on your friends. Match-making is super-efficient when it comes to online multiplayer. Additionally the electronica OST also blends very nicely into the game. It’s not a simple game and it does demand your prompt sharpness. Deem it as a warning or a challenge, in the end you can expect an engaging-tactical strategy shooter.

Bastion

Official Website: Supergiant Games
Platforms: PC, X360, Google Chrome

My personal indie pick of the year. Aside from being one of the most underplayed games of 2011, the game presents the perfect use of narration. A talented voice-cast, the narrative in Bastion steals the show. The story is somehow crafted to charm through it. With all its visual art glory, presentation is done superbly. It’s an ample effort really. Along with that, the gameplay mixes so well with the role-playing features. The control is totally swell and is free of complex learning curves. Unlockables offer a variety of weapons and items that also allow you to be more versatile. The new game+ mode delightfully opens up a different experience for you. But personally, the best bit of the game is the multiple award-winning OST. Phenomenal arrange of original music by Darren Korb. Don’t wanna spoil it out but there’s a track here that stands out tremendously. It really gave the game a unique edge. So with all that, I’d crown Bastion as the indie game of the year.

But hey that’s my opinion … what are your favorite indie releases of 2011? Make sure to comment below!
