PG Best Of 2007

Oh boy! What a crazy year in gaming we have witnessed. Hit after hit made us dizzy and ate up hours of our lives that we could have spent on Pakgamers arguing about politics! Such a waste.

We present to you the cream of the crop, Pakgamers choice for the games that outshone the rest and rose to the top. This is your Game of the Year list!

Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare
*Also fought its way to #1 on our PS3 and #4 on our PC list.

This is pure classic FPS fun. Infinity Ward's wonderfully crafted take on the COD series is a true testament to their talent. Whether it's the short but sweet single player game or the immensely satisfying multiplayer game, COD4 never disappoints. Everything moves at a brisk pace and there's rarely a time when the game slows down. The visuals are top-notch and really convey the gritty war settings in a faultless way and they're equally supported by believable sounds of explosions and guns. Each and every element of the game contributes in giving the game the classic war atmosphere, which is its strongest selling point. The multiplayer mode really adds to the game's replay value and is packed with all the features one would come to expect from a FPS of this caliber.

Mass Effect
*Also occupying number 4 on our 360 list

Bioware’s space epic is hotter than lesbian sex in an elevator. The action RPG for the next generation. Gone are the clichés of the past, this is a refreshing take on crappy genre. The combat is Bioshock-lite with a mixture of guns and powers. The characters are without doubt someone of the best ones I have ever encountered and they are all weaved into a story and atmosphere that is like no other game before it. You just never want to leave the world of mass effect, its addictive as hell. The sense of freedom is unrivaled and for once “choice” isn’t just a bullet point on the back of the box, there are no win-win situations. You save one guy, the other will have to die. What if both are your party members? Welcome to Mass Awesome.

Orangebox
*Also available for unwrapping at #3 on our 360 chart

The cake was a lie! This was supposed to be the compilation of Half Life 2s in one disc, some of the best FPS ever made in one big orange-y box, a box full of cake….Portal stole the goddamn show, like a yummy black forest cake, portal has many layers. You start with the amazing portal gun and complex yet fun puzzle but then things get a lot sweeter. The final third of the game can stand on its own against any of the juggernauts mentioned on this list. The bullrun ends with a fight with the most awesome of awesome game bosses. This cake could not possibly be any sweeter…..

look at me still talking, when there's science to do
when I look out there it makes me glad I'm not you
I've experiments to run, there is research to be done
on the people who are still alive

3

Crysis
*The king of the hill on our PC chart!

After a smashing entry in PC gaming with the instant classic Far Cry, the young Crytek team went under the radar for quite a long time, some time and a new publisher later, they re-emerged with Crysis. The gaming world was in unanimous awe.

Powered by their new and improved CryEngine2, the eye candy and life-like graphics at display wowed the gamers and the developers around the world. The question was, will the young guns succeed in achieving the same success when the all the hooplah over the visuals are over? The answer is an emphatic yes! Not only does Crysis still look eons better than everything out there and more importantly it plays like a civil war dream. The game features the astonishing graphics of jungle, the best A.I. ever in any FPS, the DX10 at its best and the excellent multi player features. Its an Obvious winner and that is Crysis with its outstanding presentation of DX10 and many other features which the other PC games didn’t offer to the gamers this year. Crysis is without doubt a must-have.

2

Halo 3
* pimp-tastic joint winner in our 360 charts

DOH.

Halo 3 is the reason the 360 was made, you can’t separate the two. It was hyped like other game before it and it lived up to the stupendous expectations. The single-player is joy to behold, with unparallel pacing and the sort variety that even sandbox games can’t rival. Every encounter in Halo 3 is a game in itself, the possibilities are endless. Throw 4 player co-op in the mix and you’re look at a game that will keep you occupied till Halo 4 rolls in. The sequel to the most played multiplayer game kicks things into high gear, the community features make you wonder how you lived without them. Forge is the first time we’ve seen user generated content on consoles and it kicks all kinds of asses. Halo 3 ticks off all the correct boxes. It’s the perfect game, SP and MP. Nothing comes close to it. Every time you play it, you noticed something that wasn’t there before, something happens that you never thought was possible. It’s unpredictable and it’s the most fun you can have with a controller in your hand. It will blow your mind and then hand it to you on a platter, it is Jesus himself. We all owe our lives to Halo 3.

1
Bioshock
* Also a not so shocking joint winner in our 360 charts

Welcome to Rapture, A City like no other, once at the very height of technology, art and prosperity. Yet, it crumbles painfully to the depths of the ocean, what could have possibly gone wrong? Bioshock is a complex quagmire of politics, ideologies and perceptions. A plane-crash survivors ends up in what was once the grandest, biggest, busiest city of them all. House to the Intellects, Industrialist and Visionaries of era. Play by play the mystery unravels itself, the secrets of the utopia reveal upon you and you’re sucked in ever further. Rapture tells its tale without using words, the more time you invest in the universe the better the return. Bioshock is everything from action, adventure, horror and role playing. From one district to another, filled with denizens, each with his own sad tale and his own shade of grey, Bioshock is an amazing thrill ride that never slows down. It’s something that must not be missed, a truly unique blend of storytelling, atmosphere and gameplay. If there ever was a game that deserved game of the year, it’s this. No second guesses. Bioshock will be one of the most memorable experiences of your gaming life.

Attaining The Impossible

Attaining The Impossible

Video Gaming is just more then a simple entertainment, it's a multibillion dollar industry in the booming world economy. The developed countries adopted this field seriously and have achieved excellence in it. But unfortunately in our under-developed countries like Pakistan, India etc (India is actually achieving it in a little bit better way) the most neglected field is the field of video gaming beside the other fields. From the term "Video Games" our desi peoples (specially parents) forget about other facts which are attach with gaming, like game development/programming, animation, music, learning via simulation
etc.

In 2005, after seeing that on one is interested in promoting video gaming in Pakistan, a ordinary guy/student took a darning step, by planning and then building a platform for local pakistani peoples who like to play video games both on hardcore and casual basis, even with lack of support in the start, low finiancial aid he dedicated his energies on building this platform. Muhammad Bilal, a student from Pakistan’s Metropolitan city Karachi was the dreamer and the founder of the 1st Pakistani gaming platform named as PakGamers! He started it all alone without any support but soon he found some other “foolish” minds joined him in this journey though they were not foolish but to the people they still are. Radd, Devilcallsmedad, Chandoo, Rafay, J.Chang, Arsal and Atif, these were the volunteers who joined Bilal as the team members and without any reward from anyone they just keep on going towards a journey which seems impossible.

But life is not as simple as we imagine. The Pakgamers set a jolt when their server hard-drived crashed/burned after a year of operation on 2nd Jauary, 2007 and the whole data was lost along with 800 members. This was a big loss especially when you are doing this at your own. But hail to the might heart of Bilal who didn’t lose his nerves, though the revival was demanding a miracle, and that miracle happened on 15th of January, 2007 when PakGamers started to breathe again. The situation was not under control yet and the site needed the staff, the fans and most importantly the sacrifice of the gamers. But again another miracle happened and the old PG guys started to join it again and Team PG started to work from the ground zero with a new and aggressive sprite of establishing the community again and since then the PG - PakGamers is gaining reputation and improving itself day and night, a simple prove is 1600+ users in just 365 days of operation :)

As the 2007 is going to end the 1st birthday of PG is approaching (15th January, 2007). At this most auspicious moment Pakgamers just wanted to thanks the members who put their efforts in making this site the better one if not the best. The journey is not over yet, in fact it is just started, to attain the impossible.

Regards,

Atif, PakGamers.com
